Elephant Bird Egg (replica) on a stand, in an antique glass display case (1920’s).

This natural history study has to be one of my favourite pieces to date.

A life-sized, hollow replica specimen of the egg of “Aepyornis maximus” (elephant bird)

This egg is made by artist Tony Ladd, who specialises in naturalistic creations. The work that goes into this replica is phenomenal, to ensure exacting dimensions and weight.

Width: approx 235mm x Height: approx 300mm

This extinct species of bird stood at over 3m tall and were only ever found on the island of Madagascar. To this day, the beaches there are still strewn with fragments of the egg shells.

The egg comes with an attractive stand that it sits in either vertically or horizontally should you prefer

To cap it off is this stunning antique display case from the 1920’s with beautiful patina on the mirror.

Note: we will consider selling the egg without the display cabinet if desired.
